Floris De Rycker

Floris De Rycker studied lute, vihuela and theorbo at the conservatories of Brussels and Ghent, the Lemmens Institute and - after winning the Marco Fodella Fondazione scholarship - at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan. He obtained a postgraduate degree in early music and lute performance with great distinction. Floris has performed at the Russian Diaghilev Festival and leading European arts festivals including Forum Alte Musik Zurich, Festival International de Musiques Sacrées Fribourg, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Festival de Saintes, Thüringer Bachwochen, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Laus Polyphoniae, Festiwal Muzyki Jednoglosowej Plock, Festival Medieval d'Elx and Ruhrtriennale. Floris is a visiting professor at the LUCA School of Arts [Lemmens Institute] and teaches music history, lute and instrumental ensemble at SLAC/conservatory and the Music Academy of Wilrijk. He plays several early plucked instruments in the international ensemble Ratas del viejo Mundo of which he is also artistic and business manager. Ratas is currently touring Europe with Eastman dancers led by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Furthermore, Floris can be heard with Graindelavoix and Sollazzo Ensemble this season. Floris' name and fascinating interpretations have been immortalised in poems and novels by Bart Stouten, Peter Holvoet-Hanssen and Sandro Veronesi.
